We have chosen to breed a limited number of ewes in the fall of '09 for the 2010 lamb season. Lambs are expected to begin arriving the third week in March. We utilize different sires to help us maintain a wide genetic diversity in our lambs each year. Below are our selections for breeding, as listed by sire. If you wish to reserve a lamb from any of the breedings listed below, please CONTACT US.

PAINTED ROCK EMMETT - Culloden Miss Birch, Painted Rock Gidget, Painted Rock Lilly, Chicory Lane Idania and Walkabout Music - we decided to use our oldest fellow for breeding again this. Always a gentleman, Emmett produces plenty of 4 horned lambs, including lilacs. Wool quality is superb!

PAINTED ROCK KIRBY - Sweetgrass Arwen, Painted Rock Haven, Painted Rock Helen, Sweetgrass Tegwen KIRBY is a 2 yr. old ram breeding his first ewes this fall; long, soft wool with exc. crimp plus multiple horned pedigree is in Kirby's background. Kirby has a stunning, wide sweeping hornset! KIRBY will be FOR SALE following breeding as we have both his parents within our core breeding flock.

PAINTED ROCK IRAM - Spahr Farm Daisy, Brindle Hill Donnora, Painted Rock Ingrid, Painted Rock Jinx
and Thunderhawk Primrose - another 4 horn & lilac producing group with great wool potential!

PAINTED ROCK JASPER (LILAC) - Painted Rock Fawn (lilac), Painted Rock Jolie, Painted Rock Kellie (lilac), Painted Rock Krystal (lilac), Painted Rock Lydia and Painted Rock Forsythia - JASPER sired all but 1 lilac lamb in 2009 (dam was blk/wht); very good 4 horn background; JASPER WILL FOR SALE FOLLOWING BREEDING SEASON.

PAINTED ROCK JEBEDIAH - Painted Rock Irene, Painted Rock Jasmine, Painted Rock Kassie, Painted Rock Ilyssa - JEB produced many multiple horned lambs in 2009; we look forward to seeing his lambs next Spring; we repeated a couple of line combinations from last year since we were so pleased with these well marked lambs.

PAINTED ROCK JACOB - Painted Rock Fern, Painted Rock Gina, Painted Rock Itsy-Bitsy Tiny Tot and Painted Rock Kayla - JACOB tends to produced well marked lambs when bred to our clean legged girls; lovely fleece, great temperaments and many 4 horned lambs abound from him.
2010 brings many changes to Painted Rock Farm! We held back some promising lambs from the 2009 lambing season and are still evaluating their traits and lines. We kept 3 ram lambs as well as 4 ewe lambs so flock totals now stand at 65 Jacobs.

Our planned breeding line-up is listed below. We did, however, have two adult rams, Ishtar and Jacob, who scaled a couple of fences to sneak into the ewe flock, breeding more ewes than we had planned. At last count, there are 36 bred ewes, which cold push out lamb count to as many as 70 lambs. This means some discounted lamb pricing as well as additional availabililty of locker lamb this fall. We also may do some ewe replacements, opting to part with some of our proven girls, holding back their ewe lamb(s) for future breeding. MORE TO COME so check the SALE PAGE for listings.

ALL our rams have a quiet, laid back temperament and we expect that trait to pass along to the lambs produced. We strive for even tempered sheep, meeting or exceeding the breed standard's. We offer a registration guarantee on our Jacob sheep and also provide shepherd support following all sales. Our goal is maintain a sound, genetically diverse flock. We concentrate on a all-around, balanced animal, not just horn number. Excellent quality fleeces and sound horns are expected and temperament means a great deal to our flock.
