Painted Rock Farm -- Ram Page
Emmett is one of our first Painted Rock rams that sports a wide, classic 2 horn look. Finer fleece type with about 55% black wool combined with a very laid back temperament earned this twin a permanent place on our flock. Emmett carries the LILAC gene and produces both 2 and 4 horned off spring. His diverse lines only adds to our flock's genetic pool ~ his sire, Abraham was our first flock sire!
We reluctantly had to make that "quality of life" decision for our beloved ram, Asher. He sustained some minor injuries to his nasal cavity last fall in ram disagreement over breeding a ewe who managed to jump fences to entice a suitor. His ability to smell was affected, hence his desire to eat grass, hay and even grain. He did not winter well and increasingly became the target of a couple of the younger, stronger rams bullying him. After one particularly devasting bout, we knew we had to make a decision for his best interest. Asher was laid to rest here at Painted Rock Farm in late April of 2008.
Asher certainly will be missed! He was an outstanding specimen of a 4 horned Jacob! His balanced, symmetrical horn set always made him a real show-stopper on the farm. A lovely fleece and gentle nature was not only evident in Asher but consistently reproduced in his lambs, who were often the sheep sold each spring. We have been blessed to keep several of Asher's lines within our own flock.
Jebediah is an outstanding flock sire from our favorite ram, Brighton Asher. This ram brings a poised presence to the flock, along with an amazing horn set; excellent fleece, markings and personality. A diverse pedigree includes Spahr Farm lines and strong 4 horn genetics..
Iram a 4 horned, two yr. old ram and is an up-and-coming star at Painted Rock Farm. His diverse lines, excellent fleece quality and well-developed horn set has exceeded my expectations! Iram carries the LILAC gene and has thrown lilac lambs for us during the 2007 lamb season.
Jacob is a 2 horned yearling ram from retiring flock sire, Painted Rock Evan. Diversity of bloodlines from his dam, Fibre Folds Delaney will prove valuable! Gentle personality, excellent fleece quality, very wide horn set with great 4 horn potential completes this ram!
Ishtar is a 2 yr. old two horn, triplet ram -- both his siblings are multi-horned -- one 4 horn, one 6 horn; Ishtar is a Puddleduck Cascade son and he comes from a long line of triplets via his dam; this ram will have excellent influence on the daughters he produces; plus a great disposition!
Our Jacob rams are the shining stars here at Painted Rock Farm. This ram page reveals the dynamics of our flock's genetic base. Using both 2 and 4 horned rams, we have developed and maintained one of the most widely diverse flocks of Jacob sheep in the country! We select for fleece quality, horn soundness, overall conformation and for quiet, gentle temperaments. Below you will find photos and pedigree links for Painted Rock's flock sires, as well as for some exciting flock sire potential candidates we are evaluating. Painted Rock Farm -- On Deck Yearling Rams
These up and coming 2009 rams are our favorite selections that we are holding back for continued evaluation. We may elect to offer one or more of them for sale but, at this time, have chosen to keep them within our flock for the next few months. Photos will be posted and updated as time allows. It will be interesting to watch these fellows grow up!
Max is an interesting combination of our own Painted Rock lines- an Asher grandson, plus lilac potential. Amazing horn set, great markings and terrific wool too! Max may well earn himself a permanent place in our flock.
Major is such an overall, quality ram that has become increasingly more confident as he ages. Being a grandson of flock favorites, Abraham and Cascade, he certainly is worth holding on to. Amazing fleece quality, from long lines of unfreckled fleece triplet potential from both parents.
Martin is widely set 2 horned lilac with very strong 4 horn background. His twin was 6 horned. Diverse lines in his pedigree, and since we have opted to sell his sire, Jasper, this guy has a place in our breeding groups for 2010. Very strong lilac genes!
